The pilot phase is rapidly coming to an end. However, we are continuing to install new pilot participants to test customer premise equipment (CPE) and procedures. Also, we have yet to test a billing system and will be doing so in the next few weeks.
The next phase is dubbed "Pre-Deployment". The pre-deployment phase will begin within the next two (2) weeks, and last for approximately 2 months. During this phase, 20/20 and Siemens engineers will:
- Expand 20/20's Network Operations Center (NOC) to handle the anticipated customer base
- Conduct a county-wide 720 square mile "Radio Frequency Survey" (RF Survey) to determine optimal radio and tower placement.
- Work with Local Municipalities for radio placement and tower construction.
I will explain each of these in future updates.
After the pilot's official end, the full NOC is built and the billing system is tested, 20/20 Communications will contact all Pilot Participants and ask if they wish to continue with:
- 500k broadband service at $35/month plus CPE cost
- 84k free service plus CPE cost
- Discontinue service at this time and schedule CPE removal.
We expect this will happen in April. Billing for the broadband service will be for the month in advance and will begin after the participant accepts a new service agreement.
20/20 Communications was selected by Washtenaw County to provide county wide Wireless Internet access.
There are four (4) phases to Wireless Washtenaw:
- Pilot
- Pre-deployment
- Deployment
- Customer acquisition and retention.
The phases will begin to overlap as portions of them are completed throughout the county.
The project is currently in the tenth week of the Pilot Phase. The pilot is scheduled through February.
