Siemens and 20/20 engineers have resolved the three biggest issues experienced so far in the Wireless Washtenaw Pilot: Account Timeouts, Rate Limiting and Rural Signal Strength.
Account timeouts: Accounts were timing out every 24 hours. This has been changed so base account timeouts will no longer occur.
Rate Limiting: The goal of Wireless Washtenaw is to give each customer a consistent speed they can depend on. Until now, participants were getting speeds ranging from 36k to 2mb. With rate limiting in place, each participant will receive 500k for the fee based service and 85k for the free service. We encourage all pilot participants to test the free 85k service during the pilot phase. Consult your pilot participant guide for procedures on accessing the free 85k service.
Rural Signal Strength: The goal in Saline and Manchester was to reach participants up to 1.5 miles from the respective water tower broadcast points. Until a recent fix, we were barely able to reach 1.2 miles. The recent fix has shown signal strength for more than two miles. People wishing to be in the pilot but were turned down due to poor signal in their area may be contacted again about becoming a pilot participant.
20/20 encourages all pilot participants to report and log any problems with the network to the Wireless Washtenaw Help Center at 877-777-5051. We are paying big bucks for this call center and need your help in testing and verifying its service.
Lastly, existing Pilot participants will soon receive an email with the Wireless Washtenaw Pilot Agreement. Please read and respond as requested in the email.
New participants must respond to this agreement in order to receive a Pilot account.
20/20 Communications was selected by Washtenaw County to provide county wide Wireless Internet access.
The project is currently in the seventh week of the Pilot Phase. The pilot is scheduled through February.
