The Wireless Washtenaw project now has 25 pilot participants located throughout the Manchester, Saline and Ann Arbor pilot areas. Residents throughout the county are contacting us by phone and email requesting access to the network at a rate of 15 per day. Today has been especially hectic with the Front page article about the project in today's Ann Arbor News. We are returning calls and emails as fast as possible while tweaking the network for optimal performance and maintaining our customers on our existing network offerings.
20/20 plans to add an average of 5 new people per day to the pilot until we reach 500 participants. 500 is the maximum number for the pilot. The pilot will last through February. On March 1 we will begin the full build-out starting with the outlying areas of the county and moving inward to the more populated areas.
We at 20/20 Communications understand the University of Michigan is discontinuing its dial up service. Many UofM faculty, staff and alumni have contacted us about becoming pilot participants. Unfortunately, the pilots are not always in the areas where the UofM person resides. To assist people falling into this category, 20/20 Communications is offering its dial-up service half off at a special rate of $7.95/month. As the Wireless Washtenaw project expands into their areas, people taking advantage of this offer will be first to be migrated to the faster Wireless Washtenaw network. Then residents can choose from the free 84k service, or the fee based 500k service. The 500k service will be $35/month with ads and $50/month without additional advertising. To take advantage of this offer, contact us at 973-2020 ext 821, email us at wwinfo@2020comm.com or visit our website at http://www.2020comm.com starting early next week
Businesses currently providing Wireless Washtenaw as a free WiFi hot spot are: The Arena in downtown Ann Arbor, and the Excalibur Barbershop and Bill's Barbershop in downtown Saline. If you're in those areas, bring in your notebook and surf the net on Wireless Washtenaw. For these locations, a Wireless Washtenaw account is not required.
20/20 Communications was selected by Washtenaw County to provide county wide Wireless Internet access.
The project is currently in the third week of the Pilot Phase.
At this time we are looking for potential pilot participants in the Ann Arbor and Saline areas.
If you are interested in becoming an Ann Arbor or Saline pilot participant, or if you'd like to register for the service when its in your area, please contact us at 973-2020 and select option 1. Then press # to leave your name, address, phone number and email at the tone. You can also email the information to wwinfo@2020comm.com |
