20/20 Communications began activating pilot participants in the Manchester and Saline areas on Friday, December 8th. The average installation time in the rural areas is between 1 to 1.5 hours. Shorter installation periods are anticipated as the 20/20 staff becomes more familiar with the installation of the new BelAir equipment.
The Ann Arbor pilot is live and broadcasting the 2020WWRoam network ID. The signal is strongest and most consistent at outside locations within the coverage area. Users will likely require a CPE, or bridge, to strengthen the signal within a building or solid structure.
In addition to the outside coverage area, the following businesses have agreed to setup Wireless Washtenaw broadcast points: the Arena Tavern on the corner of Fourth Avenue and Washington, the XL Salon at 208 East Washington and the Washington Street Art Gallery at 120 East Liberty. Installation at these sites should be completed by December 15th.
At this point 20/20 Communications has received strong interest from residential users in the Saline and Manchester communities. Mobile users in the downtown area are still needed to help evaluate the network. Interested residents can contact 20/20 Communications at (734) 973-2020, Option 1 for more details.
The installation process will continue through the months of December and January as the project team evaluates the network's performance. Progress has been better than expected, with only minor problems encountered during the pilot phase. The project is on pace to begin county-wide deployment in March of 2007. |
